CBM Training Process

From the moment a person is hired to become a CBM mover, he or she is constantly being trained and retrained.  We have a unique training process, so we actually prefer that applicants do not have prior moving experience so we can mold them into a CBM approved employee.  Training is a two part process: on-the-job experience and completing classes.  Below is a description of what training takes place for a mover to advance through the ranks.

3rd Mover

1.  The potential mover fills out an application.
He or she is then interviewed and his or
her references are checked.  If the Field
           Operations Manager believes the applicant
will be a positive addition to the CBM team,
           he or she is hired.
     2.  The new hire attends Orientation, which
informs him or her of what the company is
all about and what it takes to be a mover.

      3.  The mover goes through two days of training with an Employee Development Manager (EDM).  He or
she learns the proper way to handle boxes and furniture, as well as work with a moving crew.  At the
end of each day, the EDM evaluates the mover.
     4.  After the two day on-site training, the mover takes the 3rd Mover Exam which tests the knowledge he
or she obtained during the two days of training.  If the new hire passes, he or she will become a 3rd
          mover.
     5.  As a 3rd mover, he or she must complete the Box Packing and Map Reading classes, as well as
          pass those exams.

Periodic Evaluations
After a period of time (based on the abilities of the mover), the 3rd mover will receive an evaluation by an EDM.  If the evaluation is satisfactory and there is room for more 2nd movers, he or she will begin 2nd mover training.  If it is not, the mover will continue training as a 3rd mover.

2nd Mover
     1.  The 2nd mover undergoes two more days of training with an EDM, and is evaluated at the end of
           each day.
     2.  Like the 3rd mover, after the 2nd mover completes the training, he or she takes the 2nd Mover Exam.

Periodic Evaluations
After a period of time (based on the abilities of the mover), the 2nd mover will receive an evaluation by an EDM.  If the evaluation is satisfactory, he or she will be promoted to a higher rank based on ability and availability.  The next possible ranks are EDM, 1st Mover or Crew Chief in Training.

Driver
All levels of Crew Chiefs must be able to drive.
     1.  The prospective driver takes the Driving Class.
     2.  Upon completion of the class, the driver takes the exam.  If he or she passes, the mover is now
eligible to be a driver and to train to be a Crew Chief.

Crew Chief in Training (CIT)
     1.  If there is availability for more Crew Chiefs, the new driver will undergo three days of training with a
          Senior Crew Chief (SCC).
     2.  At the end of each day, the CIT will be evaluated.  If the SCC's evaluations are satisfactory, the CIT
will take an exam.  If he or she passes the exam, the mover will be eligible to be a Junior Crew Chief
         (JCC).

Periodic Evaluations
After a period of time (based on the abilities of the mover), the CIT will receive an evaluation by an SCC.  If the evaluation is satisfactory, he or she will be promoted to a higher rank based on ability and availability.

Junior Crew Chief
     1.  The mover completes four classes and takes the exams: Drive Class (again), Paperwork and
Waivers Class, Customer Service Class, and DOT Compliance Class.
     2.  The JCC continues to train in the field and leads crews.

Periodic Evaluations
After a period of time (based on the abilities of the mover), the JCC will receive an evaluation by an SCC.  If the evaluation is satisfactory, he or she will be promoted to a higher rank based on ability and availability.

Crew Chief
     1.  The Crew Chief (CC) leads and manages crews while on job sites.  He or she is the customer's
direct contact on the day of the move.
     2.  To advance to the next level, the CC needs to receive three recommendations from his or her peers.

Periodic Evaluations
After a period of time (based on the abilities of the mover), the CC will receive an evaluation by an SCC.  If the evaluation is satisfactory, he or she will be promoted to a higher rank based on ability and availability.

Senior Crew Chief
     1.  The Senior Crew Chief not only manages crews while on the job site, he or she also assists the
Field Operations Manager in training Crew Chiefs, dispatching the crews in the morning and filling
           in as needed.
     2.  To advance beyond this position, the SCC needs three recommendations from his or her peers.

All movers receive periodic evaluations, as well as take the classes periodically.  The classes are offered monthly, and all movers are encouraged to take the classes repeatedly to keep the information fresh.  By standing behind this training, College Bound Movers has been able to accomplish a damage rate of less than 3 percent, one of the lowest rates in the industry.
